Four decades after hit game show Catchphrase was first greenlit in the UK, ITV has announced that an 11th series of Celebrity Catchphrase has been commissioned from STV Studios Entertainment.
Everyone’s favourite star of stage and screen, Stephen Mulhern, will return to host the show that asks household names to “say what they see” and try to guess well-known phrases from a series of animated picture puzzles.
Mr. Chips – the show’s much-loved mascot – will also be back for series 11 with a host of head-scratching sayings up his neckerchief for our celebrities to try to decipher.
Catchphrase has become one of the UK’s most popular game show formats of all time since it was first commissioned by ITV in 1985, airing its first series in January of the following year. STV Studios revived the format in 2013 after a nine-year hiatus, and the first series of Celebrity Catchphrase was commissioned in 2018.
Since then, hundreds of stars, including Alison Hammond, Jonathan Ross, Joe Lycett and Ruth Jones, have joined Stephen in the studio to put their fingers on the buzzers and try to take home some money for their chosen charities.
The announcement of the series 11 commission comes just weeks before Celebrity Catchphrase returns to screens, with the tenth series set to air on ITV and STV later this spring.
Celebrity Catchphrase series 11 (10 x 60’) is commissioned by Katie Rawcliffe, Director of Entertainment & Daytime Commissioning ITV and Gemma John-Lewis, ITV Entertainment Commissioner for ITV, ITVX, STV and STV Player. The series is produced by STV Studios Entertainment, with the label’s Creative Director, Gary Chippington, as Executive Producer.
Originally created in the US by Pasetta Productions Inc. and Steven Radosh, Catchphrase is distributed by All3Media International.
